Life isn’t easy for aspiring film professionals. Professional work experience is nearly impossible to obtain. Productions don’t hire anyone who isn’t qualified. At the same time, the only way to become qualified is through professional work experience. This “chicken and egg” is ubiquitous, and nearly absolute, in the film industry.
With their careers remaining elusive and seemingly unattainable, a group of aspiring film professionals draw the golden ticket: an invitation to the CALL TIME Fellowship.
CALL TIME offers the Fellows paid work experience under the guidance of a full-scale film crew on a professional film set. That film set where the Fellows work (as Production Assistants) is an original short film developed collaboratively with the Fellows.
"Your task - in order for you to relate to this film... to identify with what we put on the screen... the characters, the communities, the perspectives..." prefaces the featured TV/film writer who is poised at the head of the CALL TIME writer's room, "Your task is to share an experience from your life that was memorable for you, perhaps because it was funny, or scary, or ironic, or sentimental, or formative. As long as it’s a real experience"
After each CALL TIME Fellow shares, the writer helps them identify themes, elements, and materials to be melded into the 5-10 screenplay.
With this collaborative screenplay in hand, the producers and department heads lead the Fellows through the entire production process - pre to post - while the Fellows work as (paid) Production Assistants throughout.
The CALL TIME Fellowship is a crew incubator & career launcher for aspiring film professionals. Fellows learn and practice industry-standard protocols. CALL TIME immerses the Fellows in every phase of film development and production. And the paid work experience under the guidance of a full-scale expert film crew qualifies the Fellows for future employment.
Creative fulfillment with professional qualifications.
